Summer in the City for Flower Lovers

As the summer sun graces us, it’s the perfect time to infuse our lives with bright, refreshing colors. At Élan Flowers, we believe that the seasonal lemonade color palette captures the essence of summer, evoking feelings of joy, warmth, and a touch of whimsy. This vibrant palette, reminiscent of a cool glass of lemonade on a hot day, is perfect for any occasion—whether it’s a wedding, a birthday party, or simply brightening up your home. The lemonade color palette features a delightful blend of sunny yellows and wispy greens. This palette features sunny seasonal stems such as scabiosa yellow, tobacco ornamental, and zinnias, each adding a refreshing touch to any space.

Each bouquet is a delightful celebration of summer, featuring butterfly ranunculus, yellow stock, and the exquisite creme de la creme roses. Sourced from local farms, these fresh, delicate blooms are arranged in a looser event style in our tall farmhouse ceramic vases by Rowe Pottery. Just like a refreshing glass of lemonade, these floral creations are sure to uplift anyone who receives them. The lemonade palette exudes warmth and cheer, making it perfect for celebrating life’s special moments.

NYC Summer Hotspots and Events

New York City in the summer is a vibrant tapestry of culture, art, and outdoor fun, offering endless opportunities for exploration. Four standout destinations—The Metropolitan Museum of Art (the MET), Little Island, Central Park, and The High Line—provide a plethora of summer events that capture the essence of the season. At the MET, you can see summer exhibitions, such as “The New Woman Behind the Camera,” which is on view until August 2024. After exploring the galleries, a trip to the rooftop garden offers stunning views of Central Park and the city skyline, providing the perfect spot to relax with a refreshing drink. The museum also hosts family-friendly programs, including art-making workshops on select weekends in August, typically from 10 AM to 12 PM, making it a fun outing for everyone.

Little Island, a stunning floating park on the Hudson River, is another destination for summer in NYC. Throughout the season, the park hosts a variety of free live performances. Notable events include a “Music on the Island” series featuring local bands on August 10 at 5 PM and a theater production titled “The Garden” on August 15 at 7 PM. The park also has unique art installations and sculptures that change with the seasons, providing a variety of backdrops for photos. You can wander through beautifully landscaped gardens filled with native plants and flowers, creating an escape from the urban architecture.

Central Park, an expansive green oasis in the heart of the city, is a highlight for many. This summer, the park will host “Movies Under the Stars,” with a screening of “Back to the Future” on August 11 at 8:30 PM in the Great Lawn area—perfect for a cozy movie night with friends. Additionally, the acclaimed “Shakespeare in the Park” series features live performances of “Much Ado About Nothing,” running until August 12, with performances starting at 8 PM. For those seeking a leisurely day on the water, renting a rowboat or kayak at the Central Park Boathouse while enjoying the park’s beauty from a different perspective is a relaxed way to spend time.

The High Line is an elevated park built on a historic freight rail line. You can participate in daily guided tours at 10 AM, 12 PM, and 6 PM, meeting at the Gansevoort entrance. “Yoga on the High Line” takes place every Wednesday morning at 8 AM, inviting participants to bring their own mats for a refreshing outdoor workout. Art talks are also scheduled throughout the summer, typically every Friday at 5 PM, providing insights into the park’s unique installations.

Beyond these major attractions, NYC is home to numerous other garden spaces that are perfect for summer enjoyment. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, with free admission on Fridays from 10 AM to 11 AM, making it an ideal spot to explore beautiful blooms. Meanwhile, the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx will host a “Summer Garden Party” on August 19 from 5 PM to 9 PM, featuring food, drinks, and live music.

There are many fun summer activities in the steel concrete jungle of NYC. All around the city the beauty of nature in flowers can be seen hiding in plain sight. We look forward to celebrating summer with our lemonade palette and looking out for fun events in the city that will make any flower lover swoon.
